Peasent Wedding Dress

Peasent Wedding Dress

This is a wedding dress I designed. The bride wanted something with a Peasant/Ren Fair/Pagan feeling. After I did several renderings she chose the top from one and the skirt from another. I made a petticoat, separate skirt, bodice with removable sleeves and blouse for her.

The petticoat is made from several layers of net sewn onto a yoke. The skirt and bodice are made from a rayon charmuse that was truly evil to edge with the heavy asian brocade. I ended up sewing it by hand around the hem because I was unhappy with the way it pulled and broke up the drape of the front when done by machine. The bodice is lightly boned with lacing up the back, and I made the sleeves separately and hand stitched them in so the bride could wear the dress again later without the sleeves. The blouse is made from a rustic slubby cotton organdy with complimenting neckline and bell sleeves.
