1885 Aesthetic Dress
1885 Aesthetic Dress was a truly exciting project for a number of reasons.
First, it is a copy of a dress that was on display at the Legion of Honor in San Fransico, a short drive from my home & studio. Second, because the wearer wanted to wear the dress to an event, shortly after the exhibit opened so my time was very short. Because time was going to be so short, I started the dress from photos, and found when I got to the museum, that I had guess many wrong things about the back. It was a great reminder that seeing isnt always understanding.
We used simple curtain fabrics for the dress but the over all effect and drape was very nice. Here I have two sets of images. The first is the finished dress on a dress form. The second is a set of fitting photos along with the original image I had to work with. Lovely.
