1843 Ladies Day dress in Blue Linen Stipes

1843 Ladies Day dress in Blue Linen Stipes

Built for a Dickens's Christmas Fair performer, which often end up being my favorite projects.  But then Im fickle and really love what I do.

This dress is made of blue striped linen.  It is rather heavy linen and dark so it is not so much of a summer fabric and thus suitable for a Dickensian Christmas.   The bias stripes  and piping are a wonderful touch you dont see duplicated very often because many people are intimidated by them.  I love bias and making piping!  The bodice and skirt are both very simple.  We had to go back in and shorten the skirt because the linen skirt grew even though the base is straight grained.  It closes with simple hooks up the back.  The white cuffs and collar are detachable for laundry.  Here in the picture she is posed with a bonnet I had on my table in progress.  Bonnet was not part of the commission.
