1840s Bonnet

1840s Bonnet

This is my most elaborate millinery project to date. It is right from "English Womens Clothing in the Nineteenth Century" by C. Willett Cunnington. It is the bonnet a la Marie Stuart. It is made from a frame of buckram with millinery wire covered with a red brown velvet. For the underside of the brim I used the dull side of a satin in radial pleats. The satin was left over from the dress that this hat was made to compliment. I finished it with a vintage panne ribbon, ostrich feathers and a antique Victorian button made of mother of pearl and enameled brass.
